Arthur Hayward Dies At Hospital Today After Illness
Arthur Hayward, World war veteran, died at 5:40 this morning at
Holy Family hospital at the age of 34 years. Death came following
an illness of four months duration. Since Sunday Mr. Hayward had
been a patient at the hospital.
Born in Columbus City, Ind., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hayward,
630 South Twenty-sixth street, he came to this city with his parents
in the year 1900 residing in this city since. For several years he
had been employed with the Wisconsin Public Service company. In 1913
Mr. Hayward enlisted in the machine gun company in the World war and
later served as a coast guard during 1913 and 1916 and later served
in the 132nd division. For three years following the signing of the
armistice Mr. Hayward was stationed in Germany. Surviving besides his
parents are three sisters, Mrs. W.F. Kugler, Huntington, Ind., Mrs.
Leo Fritz, Sheboygan, and Mrs. Gilbert Schmalfeldt, city, and one
brother, Raymond residing at home. The deceased never married.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2pm at the home on South
Twenty-sixth street with the Rev. M.S. Weber officiating. Interment
at Evergreen cemetery.
