HENRY J. HEBERT

Burns Suffered in Trailer Fire Fatal to Henry Hebert
Former Resident was Asleep When Oil Stove in Structure Exploded
Henry Hebert, 34, a resident of Manitowoc until April, 1948, was fatally burned
Thursday morning in an explosion in his trailer at the outskirts of Waupun and
died late in the afternoon at St. Joseph hospital in Beaver Dam.
According to reports, Mr. Hebert was asleep in the trailer when an oil stove
exploded. He had finished working as an engineer at the Central State hospital,
Waupun, at 6 a.m. and was asleep in the trailer whe the fire broke out shortly
after 9 o'clock.
People living in nearby trailers told firemen they heard an explosion, and the
flames began shooting from the structure. Mr. Hebert managed to get through the
trailer door, which was opened for him by other trailer camp residents, then
collapsed his clothing afire.
Mrs. Hebert was shopping with a small daughter in downtown Waupun at the time
of the fire and the two sons were in school. The trailer camp was formerly a
government project but later the 16 trailers were taken over by the city.
The wooden trailer and a pressed paper addition were burned to the ground. Both
structures were a mass of flames when firemen arrived. Mr. Hebert died six hours
later in the hospital.
The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Augus Hebert of this city. He was born in
Grand Marias Mich., and came here with his parents when a boy. For a number of
years he was employed at the Manitowoc Ship Building company and early in 1948
moved to Waupun with his family when he obtained a position as engineer in the
power plant of the state hospital there.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, the former Dorothy Robbins; two
sons, (private), a daughter (private), brother, James of this city; three sisters,
Mrs. James Bilsaver of this city, Mrs. Adolph Petska, and Mary of Chicago.
Funeral services, which will be held at the Pfeffer funeral home in this city are
incomplete but will probably be held here on Monday.
