HEART ATTACK PROVES FATAL
Brief Illness Ends In Death Saturday Noon
J. Charles Heffer, 71, died early Saturday evening after a brief illness, at
the Samuel Hall residence, 524 North Seventh street, where he made his home
for the last 14 years.
Mr. Heffer’s death was due to a heart attack. He had complained of feeling ill
for several days and was under a physician’s care. He arose for dinner Saturday
noon but later in the day was stricken.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Wattawa, Urbanek
and Schlei funeral home by the Rev. F. C. St. Clair of St. James church.
The deceased was born in Cambridge, England, where his brothers and sisters still
reside. At the age of 21 he emigrated to America and located in Canada. A few
years later he came to Whitewater, Wis., where he was married to Julia Phillips.
Later they located at Janesville.
Mrs. Heffer died 30 years ago. After her death Mr. Heffer came to Manitowoc to
be associated with Arthur Stericker in the operation of the sheep farm southwest
of the city. He continued with Mr. Stericker until the latter’s death. He was
employed by the Shipbuilding corporation before and during the war in the
dormitory and for 12 years was in the Ann Arbor offices in Manitowoc.
For a number of years Mr. Heffer has lived a retired life.
Survivors are five brothers and three sisters, all in Cambridge, England. A son
died 11 years ago.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home tonight and tomorrow before the
services.
