Ruth L. Hein

Ruth L. Hein, age 89, formerly of 1234 South 9th Street, Manitowoc, died Thursday evening, January 20, 2011, at St. Marys at Felician Village where she had resided for the past three years.

Ruth was born on November 21, 1921, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Harvey and Blanche (Levenhagen) Kono. She graduated from Manitowoc Lincoln High School with the class of 1939. Ruth married Elmer C. Hein on September 28, 1946. He preceded her in death on November 29, 1954. She had several secretarial jobs including Manitowoc Shipbuilding, Rahr Malting, Rahr BioTech and Maritime Ford. Ruth was a member of First Lutheran Church and sang in the choir for many years and in the past was active in the First Lutheran Church Women. She was a member of NSA (National Secretaries Association), Beta Signa Phi Sorority, and a past chapter president of P.S.I. (Professional Secretaries International). Ruth liked to needlepoint, do crossword puzzles, and play Bridge.

Cousins and friends survive including long-time family friend: Janet Bursek, Manitowoc. She was preceded in death by her parents: Harvey and Blanche Kono; her husband, Elmer C. Hein; and her father-in-law and mother-in-law: Elmer B. and Laura (Krueger) Hein.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at First Lutheran Church, 521 North 8th Street, Manitowoc. Rev. Roald Harswick will officiate with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. The Jens Family Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting with arrangements. Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice.
