Local Man Struck in Head in Michigan and Brought Home
Fred Herbst, of Rapids, foreman for the Worden-Allen Co., and engaged
on contract structural work in Michigan, was seriously injured in an
accident a few days ago and was brought to his home here Saturday.
Mr. Herbst is suffering from a severe injury to the head, a gash several
inches long having been cut in his forehead.
The accident happened while Mr. Herbst was injured by the arm of a heavy
crane which was being operated in handling iron on the work upon which
he was engaged. Herbst was directing the operation of the crane and
through a mix-up of signals given by workmen, was caught by the arm of
the big machine which struck him in the forehead. He was taken to Detroit
and later brought to his home here. The injuries of Mr. Herbst are not
serious but will confine him for some time.

son would have been only 20 in 1913)
