Helen Higgins, 86, of 1419 N. Eighth St., Manitowoc, died Saturday in Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc.
Private funeral services for close friends will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday in Schneider-Mittnacht Funeral Home, Manitowoc, with the Rev. Alfred Klumb officiating.
Miss Higgins was the last of the three daughters of the late Thomas Higgins, veteran railroad and utilities man of the late 1800's and early 1900's. Her father constructed the first street car line between Manitowoc and Two Rivers. He had been mayor of Neenah and moved to Manitowoc in 1902. Prior to this he and his brother, Henry, constructed segments of railroad lines for the Chicago and Pacific, the Baltimore and Ohio and Pennsylvania Railroads. He built gas plants in Dixon, Ill., Waterloo, Iowa, and Neenah, Wis. He constructed hydro-electric plants in Neenah, Marinette and Escanaba, Mich.
Helen Higgins acted as her father's secretary after completing schooling at Ferry Hall and assisted him with his real estate holdings and business dealings in the Manitowoc area until the time of his death in 1945.
The closest surviving relatives are cousins, including Mrs. Aubrey (Jane) Egan and her daughter, Mrs. Henry E. (Elaine) Burger of Manitowoc. Her parents and two sisters, Miss Eva and Aimee Higgins Jones preceded her in death. A niece, Mrs. Edwin C. (Gwendolyn) Hunkel, the only daughter of Mrs. Jones also preceded her in death in 1953.
There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Memorial Hospital or to institutions of the donor's choice.
