DYNAMITE VICTIM TO BE BURIED HERE
C. Hoeppner, 23, Son of Former Manitowoc Resident, Dies in Sturgeon Bay Hospital
Carl Hoeppner, 23, son of a former Manitowoc resident, died in a Sturgeon Bay
hospital yesterday from injuries suffered early in December by the premature
explosion of dynamite on road construction near his home, at Forestville, Door
county. Funeral services will be held at ten Monday morning from the Forestville
Lutheran church and the body will be brought to Manitowoc to be buried beside the
father's grave here.
The four companions of Hoeppner, all workmen for the state highway commission,
injured in the same accident, are still confined in the hospital, recovering from
their injuries. Hoeppner suffered a fractured skull and two broken legs when he
was hurled 20 feet in the air by the blast. Paralysis resulted from the injuries
and little hope was held out for his recovery. He was conscious until about ten
hours before his death.
Mother and Family Survives
The deceased was born at Maplewood in 1908. His father, Carl Hoeppner Sr., formerly
with the Reiss Co. here, died two years ago and his mother has since been post-
mistress at Maplewood. Four brothers and three sisters, besides the mother, survive.
It was announced there would be no inquest. The state made an investigation and all
expenses of the injured workman are being paid by the state.
