Alvin J. Holly, age 94, a resident of Shady Lane Home, formerly of 509 State St.,
Manitowoc, died Thursday morning, June 18, 1998, at Shady Lane, where he had
been residing for the past several weeks.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20,
1998, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. Rev. William Zimmer will
officiate, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Alvin was born July 1, 1903, in Shoto, Wis., son of the late Joseph and Anna
Sladky Holly. He was an auto mechanic in Manitowoc most of his life, working
at George Sladky's garage on Chicago St., then later becoming part owner at
Tri-Motor Service on Marshall St. until his retirement. After retiring, Alvin
was employed part-time with the Manitowoc Savings Bank for many years. On
August 1, 1922, he married the former Anna M. Kohlbeck at St. Anne Catholic
Church, Francis Creek. She preceded Alvin in death February 12, 1985. Alvin was
a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and also served as an usher there for
many years.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, LaVerne and Nicklaus Lambries,
Manitowoc, and Joan and Donald Tosten, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Cynthia
Surprenant, Shelly Jean Tosten, Dave Holly, and Todd Brian Tosten; six great-
grandchildren, Michael and Holly Anne Piron, Albert Surprenant, Allison Nicole
Holly, Bryan David Holly, and Erin Marie Holly; one sister-in-law, Lily Holly,
Manitowoc; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He was preceded
in death by his wife; one sister, and one brother.
Friends may call at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until
the time of services at 11 a.m.
Throughout his life and working career, Alvin's joy was working and talking
about his auto mechanics. His love for his two daughters and the grandchildren
was enriched by the values he held dearly as passed on to them.
The Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with
funeral arrangements.
