Boys Discover Body Floating in Lake Waters
Charles H. Holsen Apparent Victim of Fishing Miscue
MANITOWOC—Charles H. Holson, 59, of 612 Huron St., drowned in the
waters of Lake Michigan late Thursday afternoon when he apparently
fell off the North Pier while fishing. Manitowoc police recovered
the body shortly after being alerted at 4:41 p.m.
Four Manitowoc boys playing on the pier discovered the body floating
in the water 15 feet off the lake side of the pier and about 100
yards off shore.
Police, using Holsen's fishing gear, hooked the body and pulled it
up on the pier. Manitowoc County Coroner, Dr. Theodore A. Teitgen,
arrived at the scene and pronounced the man dead.
Discover Body
Police identity was not made immediately, police said. A license
check on an automobile parked near the pier revealed the vehicle was
registered to Holsen.
Holsen's wife told police her husband had gone fishing at about 4:15
or 4:30 p.m., shortly after returning home from work at Rahr Malting
Co. where he was a malster.
Police were alerted by a telephone call from Clarence Boeder at the
Manitowoc Yacht Club after Boeder had been informed of the discovery
of the body by the four boys. Names of the boys were not available
according to police.
The police patrol boat was also pressed into service but the body had
been recovered by the time the unit arrived at the scene.
