JOSEPH HOLSEN (d. 1962)

Joseph J. Holsen, Sr., 96, who resided with a daughter, Mrs. Violet Schubert, at 1020 S. 15th St., Manitowoc, died Wednesday night at Holy Family hospital, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. The Rev. Donald T. Stannard will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The lifelong Manitowoc County resident was born Feb. 24, 1867, son of the late Adolph and Clara Ripp Holsen. He married Pauline Kummer at Manitowoc Rapids Nov. 8, 1893. She died Aug. 28, 1948. Before his retirement years ago, he was a carpenter and contractor and also owned Holsen Bros., a threshing machine operation, in partnership with a brother. They custom threshed in the area for 36 years. His hobby in later years was repairing violins and he refurbished many of the musical instruments for the Manitowoc public schools.
Mr. Holsen was the last and youngest member of a family of 7. Four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Surviving in addition to the daughter, Mrs. Schubert, are a son, Joseph A. Holsen, of Sheboygan, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday.
