Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran
Church, Newtonburg, with the Rev. A.T. Degner officiating. Burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
The former Sophie Schmidt was born Sept. 1, 1867, in Germany, daughter of the
late Henry and Sophie Maschmann Schmidt. She came to the United States in 1889,
remaining at New York City two years before moving to Manitowoc. She was married
to August Hormann at Newtonburg May 26, 1894. He died 10 years ago.
Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Albert Pleuss and Mrs. Fred Liermann of
Rt. 4, Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. John Schneidereit of Chicago and Mrs. Marie
Bokelmann of Stolzenau, Germany; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, after 3 p.m.
Tuesday until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday when the casket will be moved to the church
where the body will lie in state after 11 a.m.
