Gary J. Hornes, 42, of 1216 S. 26th Street, Manitowoc, died Tuesday evening, December 4, at his home, following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Rev. Anton J. Wolfgramm will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Hornes was born June 22, 1942, at Manitowoc, son of Mildred I. Donohue Hornes and the late Reinhold Hornes. He grew up and was educated at Manitowoc. Mr. Hornes was a 1960 graduate of Lincoln High School and was employed at Dick Brothers Bakery for 18 years. He enjoyed fishing and had coached Women's and Girls' Softball Teams and Women's and Girls' Basketball Teams in the Manitowoc Area. He married Marie A. Peters on October 20, 1973, at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. Mr. Hornes was a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church. He also was a veteran, serving in the United States Navy from 1961-1965.
Survivors include his wife, Marie; a son, James D. at home; a daughter, Dawn M. Hornes of Madison; his mother, Mildred Hornes of Manitowoc; a brother and sister-in-law, Dean W. and Ann M. Hornes of Manitowoc; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Marjorie M. Peters of Darlington, Wisconsin, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a brother, James, in 1944.
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Pfeffer and Reinbold Funeral Home, Manitowoc, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and at the church on Friday from noon to the time of services. Memorials to First German Lutheran School Computer Fund would be appreciated.
