JAN HYNEK (d. 1919)

THOUGHT HE COULD NEVER GET WELL, ENDS ALL WITH A SHOT-GUN
Despondency due to illness and brooding over what he considered an
incurable injury to his hip, caused John Hynek, Jr., 34, a farmer
residing near Kellnersville to commit suicide last night by shooting
himself in the head. Hynek who had been at Milwaukee to consult a
specialist had only returned and at ten o'clock left the house telling
members of his family that he was going on an errand and would return
shortly. When he failed to come, Mrs. Hynek who had grown alarmed,
called her father-in-law and search was instituted about the premises.
Neighbors also aided and after an hour's hunt the body was found in a
lane leading into the nearby woods. Hynek had used a ten gauge shotgun
and when found the head was almost shot from the body, the charge
entering the face and tearing the flesh in terrible manner. No report
of the gun was heard by anyone. For several years Hynek has suffered
from fistula and only recently was operated upon. He failed to get
relief however and after doctoring for weeks felt there was no cure
for him. Growing despondent, members of his family tried in vain to
encourage him but he grew rapidly worse and he appeared to be suffering
from ? disorder. It is thought ?? grew unbalanced and this caused him to
do the rash act. A few days ago Hynek told his family about a note book
in which he inscribed a message, but this was believed to be only one
of the results of his aberration and little was thought about it. This
morning the family searched for the book in question and found written
theron a note in which Hynek said he would end it all without further
trouble to his family and friends. Hynek is survived by a wife and
several children besides his father and mother and several brothers and
sisters. He is a son of John Hynek, former chairman of the town and
member of the county board of supervisors for many years. The family has
the sympathy of many friends and neighbors, in his life he was a model
husband and father and well thought of in the community. Funeral
arrangements have not been made.
