Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mittnacht Funeral Home and at
10 a.m. at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Manitowoc, the Rev. E.A. Radey
officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Johanek was born July 18, 1892, in Czechoslovakia, son of the late Jacob
and Anna Havlova Johanek. He attended school in Czechoslovakia and came to
America at the age of 15 years. He lived with an uncle on a farm near Cato for
10 years, assisting with the farm operation. During World War I he was employed
at Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., and later at Manitowoc Portland Cement Co. In
1925, he started work at Eastman Manufacturing Co. where he was employed 29 years,
retiring in 1954. He was foreman of the turret lathe department.
He married Mary Yanda, Nov. 12, 1918, and the couple made its home at Manitowoc.
Survivors are the wife, a son, Joseph, of Manitowoc, a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Steeber,
of Manitowoc, a brother, John, in Europe and 10 grandchildren. He was a member of
Holy Innocents Holy Name Society and the 25 Year club at Eastmans.
Friends may call at the funeral home where at 7:30 o'clock this Monday evening the
Rosary will be recited by the Holy Name Society and members of the parish.
