RICHARD H. JOHN

Richard H. John, 63, of 1202 Wisconsin Ave., Manitowoc, died Friday, Sept. 9, at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Alfred Klumb will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. John was born Oct. 1, 1919, at Faribault, Minn., son of the late Rex K. and Pearl Hall John. He was graduated from Lincoln High School in 1937. Mr. John entered the armed forces in 1943 being discharged as a corporal in 1945 and serving in the European Theatre. He married Marjorie Wigen May 16, 1942, at Valders. The couple moved to Manitowoc to make their home. Mr. John was employed at Rockwell Lime Company, Rockwood. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a former Sunday school teacher and deacon at First Presbyterian Church and coached the boy's basketball team. For a number of years he played semi-pro basketball with Fischl's basketball team. Mr. John also was on the Manitowoc Galloping Gaels semi-pro football team. For many years he umpired all high school sports. Mr. John entered the Manitowoc County Softball Hall of Fame in 1982.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Garry and Barbara John of Manitowoc and Greg and Merrianne John of Spokane, Wash.; a brother and sister-in-law, Rex K. and Gwen John of Chicago, Ill; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lenore and Robert Fleet of Richmond, Va., and Miss Marjorie John of Manitowoc; a brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Orin and Lucille Wigen of Valders and Mrs. Carol Krull of Enumclaw, Wash., and two grandchildren, Amy Lynn and Brian Richard John of Manitowoc, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Jens Funeral Home, Manitowoc, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday and then at the church from noon until the time of services. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Sunday School fund, Memorial Hospital scholarship fund and American Cancer Society.
