WILLIAM G. JOHNSON (d. 2009)

William George "Bill" Johnson, age 92, of 2000 Kellner St., No. 401, Manitowoc,
passed from this life on Dec. 25, 2009, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center,
Manitowoc.
Bill was born on Dec. 17, 1917, to the late Edwin and Carrie (Bier) Johnson in
Ironwood, Mich. Bill had been a Manitowoc resident since 1959. Bill graduated
with the class of 1936 at Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood. He enlisted
in the United States Army on March 15, 1937, and served 23 years on active duty,
achieving the rank of Major. Major Johnson's personal awards include the Bronze
Star with Valor, the European/African/Middle Eastern Campaign medal, Korean
Service Medal, World War Two Victory Medal, Army of Occupation World War Two
Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and various other personal and unit awards. Before
WWII, he was a member of the Third United States Infantry Regiment, "The Old Guard,"
at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider at Arlington National Cemetery. Major Johnson
retired from the Army in 1959 and became unit advisor for the 377th Army Reserve
Unit in Manitowoc. In 1946, he wed Dona Morgan and they were married 30 years before
her death in 1976. In 1990, he wed Jane Morency and they were married 19 years until
Bill's death.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents: Edwin and Carrie Johnson; two sisters:
Alice Johnson and Betty Danoski; and his first wife, Dona Johnson.
He was a charter member of the Church of Christ on North 17th Street, Manitowoc.
He loved his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter very much.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at Pfeffer Funeral
Home, 928 S. 14th St., Manitowoc. Mr. Terry Johnson will officiate.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer Funeral Home from 10 a.m.
on Jan. 1, 2010, until the time of service at 11 a.m. Military rites will be accorded
by the V.F.W. Otto Oas Post No. 659.
Bill has been cremated at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc and will be laid to
rest at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, at a later date.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home and All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the
family.
The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. (private), and the staff at
Woodland Clinic; Home Care Health Services (private); and Holy Family Memorial Medical
Center. Those wishing to remember Bill with a donation of sympathy may consider the
