LaVerne A. Kabat, age 65, of 10 Circle Drive, Brillion, passed away unexpectedly
on Saturday, January 10, 1998, at St. Elizabeth Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 14, 1998, at St.
Mary Catholic Church in Brillion. Rev. Tom Long will officiate with burial at
Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born July 19, 1932, in Taus, daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Tisler)
Stelzer. She married Clinton Smith, he preceded her in death on March 18, 1966.
She then married Harold Kabat on June 8, 1974. She worked with her husband Harold
at Key Insurance and formerly worked at St. Mary's Nursing Home in Manitowoc. She
was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Brillion, the Christian Service
Committee, the Parish Council and was a member of the Christian Mothers.
Survivors include her husband, Harold; four daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and
Larry Dvorachek, Whitelaw, Bonnie and Terry Zeamer, Brillion, Michelle and Alan
Schaffer, Hilbert, Kay and Randy Dercks, Combined Locks; one son and daughter-in-
law, David and Lori Kabat, Waukesha; 15 grandchildren, Trisha, Missy and Ryan
Dvorachek, Jonathan, Michael, Matthew and Justin Zeamer, Alaina, Austin and Avery
Schaffer, Kelly, Andy and Samantha Dercks, Adam and Philip Kabat; two sisters and
a brother-in-law, Katie Nowak, Milwaukee, Ann and Robert Schley, New Holstein;
four brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Dorie Stelzer, Two Rivers, Joe and
Judy Stelzer, Phoenix, Ariz., Don and Jane Stelzer, Ogema, LeRoy and Karen Stelzer,
Greenwood; two sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Peter Polster,
Oconomowoc, Margaret and James Winter, Reedsville; Harold's father-in-law, Victor
Herrmann Sr., Kellnersville. She was preceded in death by her parents, her first
husband, Clinton Smith, and an infant son, Thomas Allen; one brother-in-law,
Jerry Nowak; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ignatius and Anna Kabat; and
by Harold's first wife, Bernice (Hermann) Kabat.
Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home, Brillion, from 3-8 p.m. Tuesday and
on Wednesday at the funeral home from 7:45 a.m. until 10 a.m. There will be a
vigil service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
LaVerne loved her grandchildren, enjoyed flower gardens, playing piano and bridge
club. She had a competitive edge for sports such as golfing and racquet ball.
She was an energetic, loving Christian woman and will be sadly missed by her
family and friends.
