WILLIAM KAEMS PASSES AWAY AT AGE OF 91
William Kaems, resident of Manitowoc for sixty years, died at the family home
at 1026 South Fifteenth street, at 10:45 this morning of infirmities incident
to old age. The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon from the home and will
probably be under the auspices of the Odd Fellows, of which he was a member.
Was Over Ninety
William Kaems was past 91 years of age, having been born in Germany December 26,
1830. He came to this country and direct to Manitowoc in 1856 and a year later
was married to Miss Emily Gauger, the widow who, with four children, Robert, of
Sheboygan; John of Milwaukee; August and Mrs. James Wettenkamp of this city,
survive to mourn his death. For many years, Mr. Kaems was employed as a carpenter,
retiring a few years ago to enjoy a well earned rest. September 26, 1917, the
couple celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of their wedding and plans had been
made for another big celebration in September this year, when they would have
reached the sixty-first milestone in their journey through life together. A
rather unusual fact in connection with the death is that while there are four
children living, there are no grandchildren and only two great grandchildren.
Mr. Kaems was always a quiet, unassuming citizen whose greatest pleasure was
his own home. His death came as he had lived, quietly, and his passing marks
the end of a well spent life.
