CATHERINE B. KIRCH

Stricken with a heart attack while kneeling in a confessional at Sacred Heart
church in Manitowoc shortly before 8 o’clock Thursday evening, Mrs. Edward J.
Kirch of 417 St. Clair street, Manitowoc, was pronounced dead a few minutes
later.
Mrs. Kirch, the former Catherine Skornicka of Stangelville, was 42 years of age.
She had been employed as a saleswoman at the Boston store for the past several
years.
Rev. Raymond Nowak, assistant pastor at Sacred Heart, said Mrs. Kirch, mother
of two young children, had entered the confessional about 7:50 p.m. As she was
about to leave she apparently was stricken and fell from the kneeling bench.
Father Nowak immediately summoned the fire department inhalator squad and Dr.
R. G. Yost, who were unable to revive her.
Services are to be held at 8:45 a.m. Monday at the Reedsville funeral home and
at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart church with a solemn requiem high mass in which the
Rev. L. M. Schorn will be celebrant and Rev. Nowak and Rev. William Koutnik of
Reedsville, deacons. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
A daughter of the late John Skornicka and Mrs. Skornicka, Mrs. Kirch was born
on her parents’ farm near Stangelville in 1908.
In 1934 she was married to Mr. Kirch and the couple lived in Cato before moving
to Manitowoc in 1939.
Surviving, in addition to the husband, are a son, John 16, and a daughter, Janet,
14; her mother, Mrs. Anna Skornicka of Manitowoc; a brother, Joseph Skornicka
of Stangelville, and a sister, Mrs. Harold Jaklin of Green Bay.
