HENRY KLUSMEYER (d. 1934)

SHIPYARDS WORKER KILLED IN FALL
Klusmeyer is Victim Today, Neck Broken. Henry Glihsmann Badly Hurt in Fall
from Staging on Repair Job
One man was killed and another injured in a 25 foot fall from staging at the
yards of the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Corp. at 11 o'clock this morning.
Henry Klusmeyer, 64, died shortly after being taken to the Holy Family Hospital.
He sustained a broken neck. Henry Glihsmann is suffering from a brain concussion,
several broken ribs and a scalp wound, but his condition is not considered
critical. The men were engaged in removing the fender from the Pere Marquette
Carferry No. 21 in the dry dock preparatory to repairing the hull. They, with
others, were working on a staging. According to unofficial reports of the
accident, when the fender was loosened it snapped back so suddenly that the
two men lost their balance and fell to the bottom of the dry dock. The injured
men were rushed to the hospital, both unconscious.
Klusmeyer's body was unmarked and it was believed he had a broken neck. Glihsmann
suffered a severe shock but is expected to recover. Klusmeyer, who resided at
1210 Hamilton Street, had been employed at the shipyards and the Goodrich docks
for the last 15 years. Glihsmann resides at 722 South 15th Street. The body of
Klusmeyer was removed to the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home and the
funeral will be held Saturday. Detailed arrangements had not been completed this
afternoon.
Mr. Klusmeyer was born at Newton, Dec. 27, 1869 and married Rose Kieselhorst at
Newton November 20, 1901. He is survived by the widow and five children, Mrs.
Hertha Klusmeyer, Arnold, Clarence, Ervin and Alvin, all of this city. Two
children, Olga and Wanda, died in infancy. There is one brother, Herman at
Waukesha, a sister, Mrs. John Meissner, city, and three grandchildren.
