BEN KNUTSON

Benjamin (Ben) Knutson, 76, of 415 State St., Manitowoc, retired candy manu-
facturer and salesman, died Wednesday afternoon at the Holy Family Hospital,
Manitowoc, following a two weeks illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the St. Paul Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Manitowoc. The Rev. Myron Swanson will officiate and burial
will be in Evergreen cemetery, Manitowoc.
Knutson was born in Gibson in 1877 and came to Manitowoc when a young man. He
established a home made candy manufacturing business and later was a salesman
for the George Brothers Company, a wholesale candy and confectionery firm. He
took employment at the Manitowoc Shipbuilding Inc., and retired a few years
ago.
Knutson was an ardent baseball fan, following the fortunes of Manitowoc clubs
in various semi-pro leagues and also taking a keen interest in major league
baseball.
In 1906 he married Miss Alice Halvorsen. She survives with a son, Milton of
Manitowoc; brother, Anton of Eau Claire; three sisters, Annette, Emily and Mrs.
Josephine Boese of San Francisco ; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, Friday. The
casket will be moved to the church at 10 a.m. Saturday.
