Nels E. Knutzen Sr., 86, formerly of 611 N. Ashland Ave., died Tuesday afternoon in a local hospital after a long illness. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Knutzen was born Aug. 19, 1877, in Manitowoc. He was a locomotive engineer for the North Western Railroad for 45 years until his retirement in 1945. His wife preceded him in death on July 1, 1962. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Survivors are one son, Nels E. Jr., Green Bay; one daughter, Mrs. Donald L. (Helen) Kennedy, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and six grandchildren.
Friends may call at Findeisen-Greiser Funeral Home after 7 tonight. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Harold Wisner in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
