DEATH CLAIMS HENRY KOCH, CITY PIONEER
Old Time Cabinet Maker of City Passes Away At Age of 83 Years
Henry Koch, 83, who gained fame locally years ago by his ability to
construct ornate stairs and as an expert cabinet maker, died at
12:15 a.m. today at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Meta Streich, 1209
South Fourteenth street.
Although he had been in failing health, Mr. Koch was not confined to

Mr. Koch, before his retirement about 15 years ago, was a foreman for
the Manitowoc Building Supply company. As an expert stairmaker, he
constructed the ornate stairs in the buildings of the Schuette and
Torrison department stores. For years he was in charge of measurements
for woodwork on various lake crafts and was also considered an expert
in this line.

He was born Oct. 24, 1850, at Aschersleben, Saxony, Germany. He came
to his county in 1868 and to Manitowoc after a few weeks spent in
Milwaukee. In 1875, he married Miss Margaret Wolf, who preceded him
in death. (illegible) He was a charter member of the Freier Saengerbund.
Survivors are four daughters, Mrs. W. P. Risk, Miami, Fla., Mrs. R. W.
Nelson, Kansas City, Mrs. Dale Clark and Mrs. Meta Streich, both of this
city; three sons, Charles H. of Brooksville, Fla., Harry of Milwaukee
and Reuben of this city; four brothers, Robert of Oconto, Gust of Green
Bay, Albert of Appleton, and Oscar of Los Angeles; one sister, Mrs.
Charles Young of this city and ten grandchildren.
