THELMA J. KRIES

Thelma J. Kries, age 96, a resident of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, died
Tuesday afternoon, February 10, 1998, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 13, at the First
Presbyterian Church Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. William Plank, with
burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born May 25, 1901, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late William and
Elizabeth Stephani Kries. She was a graduate of the Manitowoc business college.
Thelma was employed for 30 years to eight Mayors of the City of Manitowoc,
beginning with Mayor Schutze through Mayor Rand. Miss Kries was an accomplished
artist. She won awards for her artwork at both Wisconsin State Fair and a
13-county exhibit at the Neville Museum in Green Bay, as well as Best of Show
for Watercolor in Manitowoc. In 1964, Thelma shared a 2-artist show with another
local artist. She was a former member of the Manitowoc Little Gallery. Thelma
was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Manitowoc, a former member of the
Women's Aglow, as well as being very active at the Manitowoc Senior Center.
Survivors include two nieces, Virginia Rodenberger, California, and Roberta Tuggle,
Kentucky; and one nephews, William Halby, New York. She is further survived by a
special friend, Nora Mathey, Two Rivers; and other relatives and friends. She was
preceded in death by three sisters.
Friends may call on Friday at the First Presbyterian Chapel from 10:30 a.m.
until the time of services.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
