Mrs. Johanna Kuester Passes Away at Early Hour This MorningHer Life.
Death came as a welcome relief to earthly suffering for Mrs. Johanna Kuester,
one of Manitowoc county pioneers at the home of her grandchild Mrs. Ben Hanson
shortly after mid-night today, the end coming with her children and grand-
children gathered around her, several of whom had arrived from distant points
in time to be with her in her last few hours. Decedent was 72 years of age and
ever since her youth when she came here from Germany, she has resided in the
county. Funeral arrangements have not yet been concluded.

Death Monday morning, after a short illness, of 72-year old
Mrs. Johanna Kuester in the home of her granddaughter, Mrs.
Ben Hanson. The deceased came here from Germany in her youth
and spent the greater part of her life in Manitowoc County.
She was well-known in this city and its surroundings because
she owned the hotel at Brauns Corners, which will now be run
by her son George Braun. The deceased, who was twice married,
is survived 7 children and several sisters, as well as a large
number of grandchildren. The funeral was yesterday afternoon.

Johanna F. W. Helwig emigrated from Uckermark, Brandenburg, Prussia in 1857. She came on the ship Weser with her parents, Christian Friedrich and Johanna Mewes Helwig [unable to find their graves] and siblings Charles (Carl), William, Fredricke, and August Helwig.
Johanna married J. William Braun/Brown. He was a tavern keeper at Clark's Mills.[Unable to find his grave or date of death]. They had 5 children by 1870: Emma Brown Ohde Helwig, George Brown of Brown's Corners, Nancy, Josephine Brown Olson, and William Brown. In the 1880s she married Fred Kuester. They had at least one, possibly 2 children
