LESTER C. KUGLER

Lester C. Kugler, 60, 1120 Nagle Ave., Manitowoc, died Wednesday evening at
Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc, after a heart attack.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral
Home, Manitowoc, the Rev. Paul Blaufuss of St. John Evangelical and Reformed
Church, Manitowoc, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc.
Mr. Kugler was born Dec. 7, 1900, at Manitowoc, son of the late Fred and Fredricke
Schroeder Kugler. He was graduated from local schools and employed at Manitowoc
Shipbuilding Inc. At one time he operated Seitz Bowling Alleys at Manitowoc.
His own bowling average ranged between 185 and 190 and he bowled on a number of
county championship teams. In 1941 he bowled with the Schenley Liquor Co. team of
this city, which team won the county championship that year. The same team tied
for county championship in 1943.
On Nov. 9, 1944, while bowling with the five man team of Ross Furmodes of Manitowoc,
his group set an all time high record for this city with a score of 1,169 in one
game. The asme team won the state bowling tournament championship in 1945. It is
the only team from Manitowoc that has ever taken the state championship.
Mr. Kugler married Clara Muench Nov. 29, 1934, at Manitowoc, where he lived all
his life. The past 22 years he was a steward at the Elks Lodge of Manitowoc and
was recently employed at the Branch River Country Club. A resident of the 10th
ward for 21 years, Mr. Kugler was an unsuccessful candidate for alderman in 1957.
He was a member of the Manitowoc Eagles Club, Aerie 706, of the Isaac Walton League
and also a member of the Men’s Garden Club of Manitowoc. A brother, Richard,
preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife; a brother, Fred of Manitowoc; a half-brother, Fred
Gaestel of Manitowoc; two sisters, Mrs. Stanley Zlatohlavek of Manitowoc and Mrs.
Hilda Kugler of Milwaukee.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 p.m. Friday.
