Charles M. Kuhl Jr., 70 of 1224 S. 12th Street, Manitowoc, died Tuesday afternoon,
January 31, 1989 at Holy Family Medical Center, Manitowoc. Funeral services will
be 1:30 pm Friday at Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc. Burial will be in Evergreen
Cemetery, Manitowoc. Military rites will be accorded by V.F.W. Otto Oas Post 659.
Mr. Kuhl was born December 3, 1918 at Manitowoc, son of the late Charles M. and
Alma Lohse Kuhl. He was a Manitowoc resident all his life. He attended Manitowoc
schools and graduated from Lincoln High School with the Class of 1937. Mr. Kuhl
was employed at Wisconsin Bell, retiring in 1984. He was a veteran of World War II,
serving in the United States Army from 1941 - 1945 with Company B of the 730th Field
Artillery. He served in the European Theatre of Operation in Normandy, Northern
France, Ardenns, Rhineland and Central Europe. Mr. Kuhl received the Victory medal,
the American Theatre Ribbon , the American Defense Service Ribbon, the European
American Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon with one silver battle star. He also received
the Purple Heart. Mr. Kuhl was a member of the V.F.W. Otto Oas Post 659 and the Amvets
Post 99.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Kuhl and Steven and Virginia
Kuhl of Oshkosh; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Steven Scherer of Manitowoc;
a sister, Elaine M. Kuhl and a special friend, Donna Goeke, both of Manitowoc and ten
grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and William and a
sister, Dorothy.
