MRS. LA COSSE DIES AT THE NELSON HOME
Former Bessie Nelson, Who Was Born Here, Was Ill 18 Months
After an illness of 18 months, Mrs. Bessie Nelson La Cosse, wife of
Doctor Albert J. La Cosse, former Manitowoc resident, died at the
home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Horal Nelson, 432 North Ninth street,
Sunday afternoon. Born and reared in Manitowoc, the deceased had a host
of friends here who were shocked to learn of her death yesterday.
Funeral services for Mrs. La Cosse on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the
Sacred Heart church will be on the anniversary of her marriage to Mr.
La Cosse here in 1909.
The deceased, whose maiden name was Bessie Nelson, was born in Manitowoc
December 10, 1877. She was graduated from the local grade and north side
high school in 1896 and entered the postal service as a clerk under the
late Henry Vits and served 12 years. During her last six years in the
postoffice (sic) she was assistant postmistress.
On August 2, 1909, she was married to Albert J. La Cosse of Kaukauna
in this city and they made this city their home for a time. When Dr.
La Cosse resumed his practice they moved to Marinette and resided
there for three years where Mrs. La Cosse was active in church and
music circles and where she numbered a large circle of friends among
her acquaintances.
Later the family moved to Milwaukee, where they resided until the illness
of Mrs. La Cosse.
Four children were born, Olive, Robert, Paul and Catherine, the last named
dying at the age of three months. The husband, daughter, two sons, parents,
and one brother, William Nelson, of this city, survive.
Interment will be in Evergreen cemtery following funeral services Wednesday
at 9 a.m. from the Sacred Heart church. The remains may be viewed up to the
hour of the funeral at the Wattawa, Urbanek and Schlei funeral home.

A number of years ago ten young ladies of Manitowoc formed a group
which became known as the Sweet Clover club. Although some of the
memebers left the city, the organization continued. In the passing
of Mrs. Albert J. LaCosse, formerly Miss Bessie Nelson, here on
Sunday, the first death in club membership is recorded. The picture
above was taken at the time that the Sweet Clover club was formed.
Funeral services for Mrs. LaCosse will be held Wednesday morning at
the Sacred Heart church.

Miss Nelson Resigns as Assistant Postmaster to Become a Bride
With the announcement of the resignation of Miss Elizabeth J. Nelson as assistant
post master, which was presented Saturday, comes the announcement of her approaching
marriage to Albert LaCosse, formerly of Kaukauna, now a resident of this city,
Wednesday, Aug. 4. Miss Nelson has been an employee of the local post office for ten
years, during most of which time she has served as assistance to the postmaster and
her retirement was a surprise. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horal Nelson, N.
Ninth Street, and by her courteous and attentive manner as an official has won a host
of friends and admirers. Mr. LaCosse is an employe of the C & N.W. Railway Co., as a
brakeman on the run on the Green Bay extension from this city to Eland Jct. Daily.
Miss Nelson has been absent from the post office on her annual vacation and returned
from the Caves at Cooperstown Friday to present her resignation to the postal
authorities. The wedding will be a quiet one and Mr. LaCosse and his bride will go
to the coast on their honeymoon.
