STANLEY H. LAMBKIN

Stanley H. Lambkin, a longtime resident of Manitowoc, died on Tuesday, May 16,
2006, of congestive heart failure.
He lived in Simi Valley, Calif., for the past three years. Stanley was born on
Aug. 16, 1920, in Chicago. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service
from March 1940 through November of 1949, where he held the ratings of Motor
Machinist Mate First Class and Enlisted Submarine Warfare Specialist. He was a
"Plank Holder" (original crewmember) on both the USS Pompon (SS267) and the USS
Loggerhead (SS364). Stanley remained active with World War II Submarine Veterans'
Associations and was a key planner in the "Twenty-One Boat" reunion held in
Manitowoc in 1984. He also worked tirelessly to help bring the USS Cobia to town
to serve as a memorial and museum for submarine veterans at the Maritime Museum.
Following his military service, Stanley secured employment with the U.S. Postal
Service, where he served 35 years until his retirement. Stanley married Grace
Aumann in April 1943. They shared 54 years of marriage and had two children:
Linda Hogue of Simi Valley, Calif., and David Lambkin and his wife, Jane, of
Sherman Oaks, Calif.
Stanley was preceded in death by his wife: Grace, in 1997; and son-in-law: Lon
Hogue in 1985. He is survived by his sister: Betty (Walter) Kinnear of Garden
Grove, Calif.; and his sister-in-law: Donna Gotchy of Manitowoc.
In accordance with his wishes, Stanley has been cremated and will be privately
interred in Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc. The family requests that any
memorials or donations made in his honor be sent to the Lakeshore Humane Society.
