Milton Larson, Police Officer, Is Dead at 50
Sgt. Milton A. Larson, veteran member of the city police department, died early
Wednesday morning at the Holy Family Hospital. He was 50.
Sgt. Larson, who was due to leave on vacation Tuesday, became ill after dinner
Monday night and went to the hospital after seeing a doctor.
Death came at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday from a heart attack.
Chief of Police James J. Kuplic described Sgt. Larson Wednesday as “one of the
finest officers on the force. I can’t say anything but good about him.”
Sgt. Larson, said Chief Kuplic, “was a gentleman.”
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Roland Schwandt will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Sgt. Larson was born in Manitowoc Rapids on July 5, 1903, the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Christ Larson. On Jun 19, 1926, he married the former Luella Shimek, and the
couple lived on a farm in Manitowoc Rapids for a year following their marriage.
He became a salesman for the Manitowoc Seed Company, and later for the Wisconsin
Public Service Corporation. He was a bus driver in the city until June 18, 1935,
when he joined the Manitowoc Police Department.
He was promoted to sergeant on June 6, 1949.
Survivors include Mrs. Larson, at 1133 N. 17th St.; two sons, James at the
University of Wisconsin and Pvt. Thomas of Ft. Bliss, Tex. He was a member of
the Brotherhood of the St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Police Protective
Association.
Friends may call at the Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home from 2 p.m. Thursday
until 10 a.m. Friday, when the casket will be moved to the church until time
of services.
