EMELIA LENZ

MRS. WM. LENZ, CO. PIONEER, PASSES AWAY
Mrs. William Lenz, nee Emelia Droesen, wife of William Lenz who preceded her
in death nearly thirty years ago, passed away at eleven o’clock last night at
the age of 86 after being confined to her bed for nearly four years.
The deceased was born August 20, 1839 in Polcien in the County of New Stetien
in Stieten-Regarine-Bezwick. She was married to William Lenz in Materien at
the age of twenty-five and four years later came to America, landing at New
York from whence she went on to Milwaukee where she resided seven years and
then moved to Manitowoc and has resided here since. Mr. Lenz came to this
country on one of the sailing vessels of that day which was two months enroute.
Many unfortunate passengers died on the trip, twelve being buried at sea.
The deceased was a pioneer resident of the city, having lived here over fifty
years. She is survived by two brothers, Carl and Fred and one sister, Hannah
whose whereabouts are unknown. She has made her home for many years with her
son Herman who with six grandchildren also survive her.
Funeral services will be held from the home of H.W. Lenz, north Eighth street,
on Wednesday at 1:30 o’clock with burial at Evergreen, the Rev. Machmiller
officiating.
