Gertrude U. Leslie, age 91, of 1850 Bowen St., Oshkosh, died Sunday, March 23,
2003 at Oshkosh Medical and Rehabilitation Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 27, 2003 at the Jens
Family Funeral Home, 1122 S. Eighth St., Manitowoc. The Rev. Larry McCann will
officiate. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Gertrude was born Oct. 9, 1911 in Plymouth, daughter of the late Otto and Wella
Sebald Ullrich. She attended schools in Plymouth and graduated from Plymouth
High School. In 1932, Gertrude received a Bachelor of Science degree in home
economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She later graduated with a
master's degree in home economics in 1940. On Aug. 31, 1946, she married Edward L.
Leslie at Plymouth. He preceded her in death in 1975. Gertrude was a home economics
teacher at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School and Lincoln High School in Manitowoc.
Gertrude was a member of Wisconsin Eastern Star, National Education Association,
Wisconsin Education Association, University of Wisconsin Alumni and past member of
the Manitowoc Education Association.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law: John E. and Jane Leslie, Arlington,
Texas; one daughter and son-in-law: Patricia and Thomas Lowther, Oshkosh; one
stepson: Dr. Edward L. and Diane Leslie Jr., Waukegan, Ill.; one stepdaughter:
Suzanne and David Dailey, Clovis, N.M.; 11 grandchildren: Michael and Hannah Leslie:
Leslie Ann and Tommy Lowther; Edward Leslie III; Daniel Leslie; Michael Leslie;
John Leslie, Meghan Fitzgerald; Anne Vonesh; Kate Leslie; 12 great-grandchildren;
and one sister-in-law; Dori Ullrich, Wausau. Nieces, nephews, other relatives and
friends also survive. Besides her parents and husband, Gertrude was preceded in
death by one grandson: Jonathan James Leslie; one brother: John Ullrich; and one
sister, Lucille Cobb.
Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday at the Jens Family Funeral Home from 5
until 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may
be made to the Manitowoc Senior Center or the Oshkosh Senior Center.
The Leslie family would like to thank the staff at Oshkosh Medical and Rehabilitation
Center for their wonderful care and thoughtfulness.
