NORMAN LESLIE

DIES ON WAY TO OFFICE OF HIS PHYSICIAN
Norman Leslie, Well-known Singer of City, Victim of Apoplexy Late Yesterday
Stricken with a sudden attack as he was on his way to a physician's office where
he had been undergoing treatment for a blood infection, Norman Leslie, 41, well
known radio singer over the local station, collapsed in the office doorway of the
Gaterman Manufacturing company here shortly after 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon
and died as he was being taken into the Holy Family hospital. His death was
declared by his physicians to have been due to apoplexy.
It was presumed by members of the family that Leslie became weak while he was on
his way to the physician's office and planned to rest for a period at the Gaterman
shop where he was formerly employed and it was in the doorway leading to the office
of the concern that he collapsed. His physician was called and ordered him removed
to the hospital and he was on the elevator being taken to a room when he breathed
his last.
Born in Scotland
Leslie would have been 42 years of age on September 27 of this year having been
born in Aberdeen, Scotland on September 27, 1888. When a youth of 16 he came to
Canada and still later to the Untied States, arriving in Manitowoc county five
years ago. He was employed as a latheman at the shipyards and at the Gaterman shop
during his residence in Manitowoc.
Immediate relatives consist of his widow, nee Miss Jean Russell of London, Ontario,
Canada, and who married him in Toronto 15 years ago and a daughter, Kathleen. One
sister lives in Aberdeen.
Since coming to this section, Mr. Leslie has built up a wide acquaintanceship and
will be remembered by radio listeners for the Scotch songs he sung over the local
radio station. He also appeared before clubs and sang in the choir of the St. Paul's
M.E. church.
Funeral on Saturday
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Wattawa and
Urbanek chapel and will be in charge of the Rev. William Wilson of St. Paul's M.E.
church. The remains may be viewed tonight from 7 to 9 at the chapel.
