Earl D. Levenhagen, age 89, who was living with his daughter, Linda,
at 2000 Johnston Drive, Manitowoc, died Wednesday evening, January 1,
1997, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc, after a
courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 4, 1997,
at the Pfeffer Funeral Home and at 12 Noon at Holy Innocents Catholic
Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will
be Rev. David Zimmerman with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc.
He was born October 1, 1907, in Manitowoc, son of the late Fred and
Meta Brey Levenhagen. On April 23, 1962, he married the former Elsie
Koch Biely. Earl was employed at the Manitowoc Seed Company, he was a
cook on Lake Freighters and was an apprentice for Houghton Plumber.
He was also a painter at Manitowoc Shipbuilding, a dry-miller at
Manitowoc Portland Cement and a heavy equipment mechanic for Portland
Cement in Charlevoix, Mich. Earl retired in 1970 at the age of 63.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, stock car races and demolition derby's at
the fairs.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie; two daughters and a son-in-law,
(private), a step-son and daughter-in-law, three step-daughters and
sons-in-law; a sister and brother-in-law, Meta and Paul Larsen,
Manitowoc; a brother and sister-in-law, Frederick (Fritz) and Eunice
Levenhagen, Manitowoc; four grandchildren; many great-grandchildren;
many step-grandchildren; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives
and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Brown
Levenhagen Nielsen in 1961, a son, Edward A. Levenhagen in 1987, along
with many fishing and hunting friends.
Friends may call at the Pfeffer Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. Friday
where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. by Deacon Kenneth
Nelesen.
