FRED LOHSE

STRICKEN ON STREET AS HE IS ON WAY HOME
Fred Lohse, Pioneer, Is victim of Heart Attack and Death
Death overtook Fred Lohse, old resident of the city, while he was
on his way home for the evening meal Sunday after having attended
a meeting of his railroad union and visited at the home of his
daughter, Mrs. Charles Kuhl. The end came without warning when Mr.
Lohse was within two blocks of his home, 1113 South Twelfth street.
He collapsed and before assistance could reach him was dead. The
body was removed to the Pfeffer undertaking parlors and Dr. Kemper,
county coroner, called but death was found to be due to heart failure
and no inquest will be held.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon with services at the
Lutheran church at 2 o'clock, Rev. Karl Machmiller officiating. Burial
will be at Evergreen.
Fred Lohse was born in Germany March 22, 1857 and was past sixty-nine
years of age. He was married in Germany in 1884 to Emily Post and the
family soon came to find a new home in America. For many years Mr.
Lohse was employed by the Chicago and North Western and of late years
held the position of crossing watchman at the Sixteenth street
shipyards crossing. His wife preceded him in death two years ago and
he is survived by eleven children Mrs. Bruno Gabel of Chicago, Mrs.
Ernst Regall of Unity, Mrs. Meade Thompson, Mrs. Charles Kuhl, Albert,
Otto, Max, Edward, Lydia and Orando all of this city, the last five
mentioned being at home. Three brothers and three sisters, Albert of
LeSueur, Minn., and Frank of Chicago and Mrs. Emma Zuehl of Wilmette,
Minn., with the other brother and two sisters still living in Germany
and twenty-two grandchildren also survive him.
Mr. Lohse was never affiliated with any of the fraternal organizations,
devoting all of his time away from his work to his home. He was a
conscientious worker and was popular with his associates and with his
neighbors.
