Alma E. Matte, age 92, a resident of Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc,
died Saturday, January 1, 2000, at the home.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 4, 200, at Wesley
United Methodist Church, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be Rev. Lynn
Kollath with burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
She was born June 9, 1907, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Otto and Theresa
Bartsch Heise. On Nov. 25, 1925, she married Clarence Matte in Manitowoc. He
preceded her in death on October 9, 1968. Also was a lifelong member of Wesley
United Methodist church and throughout the years, belonged to several church
clubs and Bible study groups.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Sue Matte, Palm Desert,
Ca., Gene and Dawn Matte, Bruce and Janice Matte, both of Manitowoc; three daughters
and sons-in-law, Lois and James D. McDonald, Manitowoc, Pat and Allen Schwoerer,
Altoona, Wis., Darlene and Gary Johnson, Denmark; two daughters-in-law, Patricia
Matte and Isabelle Matte, both of Manitowoc; 26 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren,
and one great-great-grandson; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Matte and Frances Matte,
both of Manitowoc; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. She
was preceded in death by three sons, Leroy, Meryl, and Lloyd Matte, three brothers
and two sisters.
The family will greet relatives and friends at Wesley United Methodist Church from
10:00 a.m. on Tuesday (TODAY) until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. There will be
no Monday evening visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley United Methodist Church, Manitowoc.
The Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
Alma was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother
and friend to many people she met in her lifetime. She will be greatly missed. Her
favorite hymn was "Beyond the Sunset," and whenever we see the sun set, we'll be
thinking of you.
