Joseph P. Matte Sr., 81, of 18008 Hamilton street, retired carpenter, died suddenly last night at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Pfeffer funeral home,the Rev. Carl Hagen officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

He was born in St. Abin, Canada in 1865 and at the age of 20 years came to Wausau and in 1920 moved to Manitowoc, where in recent years he was a carpenter at the Manitowoc Ship Building company.

He retired in 1936.

He was a member of the Odd Fellows lodge No. 194.

Fifty-two years ago he married Miss Emma Pietscher.

She survives with six sons, Herbert, Clarence, Walter and Louis of this city, Fred of Lind, Wis., Joseph Jr of Milwaukee; four daughters, Mrs. Agnes Schwantz, Mrs. Ralph Bashaw, Mrs. Alfred Wallan and Mrs. Elmer Albert, all of this city; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Stauzeau and Mrs. Clara Naud of Canada; two brothers, Samuel and Willbur of Canada; 37 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The body may be viewed after Tuesday noon at the funeral home.
