Louis C. Matte, 55, of 605 York St., Manitowoc, died Saturday at Holy Family
Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be at 9:30 am Monday at Pfeffer
Funeral Home and at 10 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manitowoc. The Rt. Rev.
Msgr. John Landowski will officiate and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery,
Manitowoc with military graveside rites by Otto Oas Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 659.
Mr. Matte was born Dec. 11, 1911 in the town of Weston, Marathon County, son of
the late Joseph and Emma Petcher Matte. He came to Manitowoc with his parents
in 1915 and married Frances B. Jogodinsky April 19, 1948 at St. Mary Church. He
worked for the Wisconsin and Eck Foundaries and since 1949 owned and operated
Matt's Mart at Manitowoc. He was a 25 year member of the Fraternal Order of
Eagles No. 706, Navy Veteran of World War II and a member of the Holy Name
Society of St. Mary parish.
His survivors include his wife; four brothers, Herbert, Walter and Clarence of
Manitowoc and Fred of Shawano; and two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Bashaw and Mrs.
Elmer Albert of Manitowoc. Four sisters and a brother preceded him in death.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 3 pm Sunday where at 7 pm the Rosary
will be recited. Eagles memorial service will begin at 8 pm Sunday.
