James C. McCarty (sic) of this city died Saturday morning. He had
been in declining health for the last year but his condition became
critical only a few days before the end came. Death was due to a
complication of troubles. He was 63 years of age and a native of
Milwaukee. When he was two years old his parents come to Manitowoc
county and settled on a farm in Kossuth where Mr. McCarty grew to
manhood. When a young man he was married to Miss Sarah Eatough and
followed the occupation of farming on the old homestead. He was quite
a prominent man of Kossuth in years gone by. He was Justice of the
Peace and town clerk for many years and was also chairman of the town
for several years. About twelve years ago he disposed of the farm and
with his family moved to this city where he conducted a confectionery
store on North 8th street until four years ago, when his health failed
and he turned the store over to his son Frank.
Besides his wife he is survived by three sons, DeWitt of this city,
Charles of Kenosha and Frank of Chippewa Falls.
The funeral was held Tuesday morning from Sacred Heart church. Rev.
J.T. O'Leary conducted the services. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.
