Pioneer Harness Man and Long Resident, Died Last Night
HERE SINCE CHILD OF 3 YEARS OLD
Herman Frederick Rietz, for years engaged in business as a harness maker and a
member of the firm of Rietz & Plantico, Washington street, died at his home,
1015 Washington street, at 7 o’clock last night over an illness that was of a
year’s duration. Mr. Rietz suffered from an incurable malady and for weeks had
abandoned hope of recovery and death was not unexpected.
Mr. Rietz was 64 years of age and had been a resident of Manitowoc for 61 years,
coming here with his parents as a child of three years. He was born in Bohemia,
his parents coming to America soon after his birth. Mr. Rietz engaged in business
as a harness maker and in 1881 became associated with Charles Plantico and the
firm has conducted a shop and store on Washington street for more than 30 years.
A widow and five children survive Mr. Rietz. Dr. Paul Rietz, Dr. Arthur Rietz,
and Mrs. W. P. Woods, all of Evansville, Ind.; Hugo C. Rietz of Los Angeles, Cal.;
and Walter H. Rietz, who is a student at Rush Medical College. One brother Charles
of Milwaukee, and two sisters, Mrs. Gustave Str___and Mrs. C. Kansier also survive.
Funeral arrangements have not been made.

Hermann Rietz, died Friday at his home on Washington Street, aged 64 years. He
was born in Germany and came to this country with his parents when a boy and
has ever since been a resident of this city. In 1874 he was united in marriage
to Miss Augusta Plantico, who still survives besides five children, Dr. P.C.
Rietz, Arthur Rietz and Mrs. M.P. Wood, all of Evansville, Ind., Dr. Hugo C.
Rietz of Los Angeles and Walter H. Rietz, student at Rush Medical College,
Chicago. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the German Lutheran Church.
Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.

In the matter of the estate of Herman F. Rietz, deceased. In probate.
An Instrument in writing purporting to be the Last Will and Testament of Herman F.
Beietz, of Manitowoc, in said County having been delivered into said Court:
And Agusta Rietz, of Manitowoc, in said County having presented to said Court her
pettition in writing duly verified, representing among other things that said
Herman F. Reitz, died testate, at Manitowoc, in said County, on the 28th day of
August, 1914; that said Instrument is the Last Will of said deceased and that said
petitioner is named therein as Executrix, and praying that said Insturment be
proven and admitted to Probate and that letters Testamentary be thereon issued to
said petitioner.
It is ordered: That said petition and the matters therein be heard, and proofs of
said last will and testament be taken, at a regular term of said County Court, to
be held at the Probate Office in the city of Manitowoc, on Tuesday, the 6th day
of October, 1914, at 10 o'clock A.M.
And it is further ordered: That notice of the time and place of said hearing be
given by publication hereof for three successive weeks, once each week, previous
to the time of said hearing in the Manitowoc Post, a newspaper published in said
Manitowoc County.
