ANTOINETTE J. SCHROEDER (d. 1952)

Services Friday for Traffic Victim
Funeral services for 15 months-old Antoinette Joan Schroeder, run over and
fatally injured early Monday afternoon by a truck in the yard of the Manitowoc
Fish Company on Park Street, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Urbanek and
Schlei Funeral Home. The Rev. Valentine Mack will officiate and burial will be
in Evergreen Cemetery.
Dr. Theo. Teitgen, county coroner, announced there will be no inquest and the
driver of the truck, Roger Wachal, 17, of Manitowoc, is not being held.
The coroner said Antoinette, with two older children of the Schroeder family,
was playing in the yard. The mother was also there. The mother stepped inside
a moment to check on the dinner cooking on the stove and in that time Wachal
backed his truck into the yard.
Wachal told officers and the coroner he did not see the children and when he
felt a bump stopped the truck. He took the mother and child to the Holy Family
Hospital. Death of Antoinette was due to a fractured skull.
Survivors are the parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Schroeder, of 913 Park St.;
a sister, Georgiana and brother, Wayne; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.
Anton Stehula, and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schroeder, all of
Manitowoc.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday.
