In Manitowac, Wisconsin he was a bookkeeper for the old Fluegler Mill. He also was employed at the Manitowac Shipyards. He then worked at a sawmill in Manistee, Michigan.
He met and married Louisa Moessner of Madison, Wisconsin. This was in May 1867.
Christian died suddenly the morning of July 3, 1904.
