Born on the family farm in Gibson (Township) in rural Manitowoc County, WI; Mary Anna was the second of eleven children (three daughters, five sons, plus three infants who did not live to be recorded in the 1900 Federal Census) born to John & Mary (Malecek) Krcma.

On 15 June 1896, Mary Anna married Jacob Joseph Stangel in Manitowoc, WI; she was age 20, he was 26.

"Mrs. J.J. Stangel, 102, of 828 Lincoln Blvd., Manitowoc, died Thursday morning in Holy Family Hospital, Manitowoc. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Schneider-Mittnacht Funeral Home and 11 a.m. in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manitowoc. A grandson, The Rev. William Zimmer, the Very Rev. Msgr. Carl Steiner of Niagara, Wis., and the Rev. Earl R. Brouchoud will officiate at a concelebrated funeral Mass and burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.

"Mrs. Stangel, nee Mary Krcma, was born Nov. 2, 1875, in Tisch Mills, daughter of the late John and Mary Malacek Krcma. She was married to Jacob J. Stangel June 15, 1896 in St. Mary Catholic Church, Tisch Mills.

"Her husband founded the J.J. Stangel Hardware Co. in Manitowoc five years before his death April 18, 1922.

"Mrs. Stangel was a charter member of Catholic Women's Club and American Legion Auxiliary and an honorary member of Sacred Heart Rosary Society and Monday Music Club.

"Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur G. and Jane Stangel and Harvey J. and Dorothy Stangel and a daughter, Mrs. Joseph F. (Viola A) Zimmer of Manitowoc; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Emily Krcma of Zander and Anton F. and Delia Krcma of Manitowoc, seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death."
