SHREVEPORT, LA - Alfred Kenneth "Bubba" Gandy of Shreveport, La. passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 5, 2010 after a yearlong battle with lung cancer. He was born in Bossier City on March 26, 1928, and lived most of his life there, graduating from Bossier High School in 1945. He attended Centenary College in Shreveport.
Mr. Gandy mentored many area bankers in more than 40 years at Bossier Bank & Trust Co. where he became senior vice president and cashier. He believed in "doing-it-yourself" and could repair or build almost anything. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening and being with friends and family. He was a proud member of the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Posse.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Wiley Alvin Gandy and Gertrude Wilson, by his wife of 46 years, Roma Rae Young, and their daughter Kellie Ann Gandy, and by his second wife, Shirley Lacobee Ennis.
Survivors include his daughter Kim Gandy. her husband Kip Lornell, and granddaughters Elizabeth Cady Lornell and Katherine Eleanor Gandy all of Silver Spring, Maryland, and his wife Frances Rowe.
Other survivors include his brother Snider Alvin Gandy and his daughters Diane Tinker, Laura Leigh Gandy and Carol Gallegos.
Visitation will be 12 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, at Hill Crest Funeral Home in Haughton, La., followed by a 1 p.m. graveside service with remembrances from family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.
