My paternal great-grandfather was born Cicero Egbert Lane. Bert was raised by W.P. Abernathy and family, and assumed their last name. His birth parents were Alexander Wesley Lane and Martha Haning Lane. His mother Martha passed away when Bert was an infant and his father Alex split the children up to be raised by various families in and around Grayson and Collin Counties in North Texas. Bert had two natural sisters that I am aware of - Nora Leona [1st marriage to a Gibson] [2nd marriage to a Bartlett] and Maude Pearl [married a Dinkins]. I owe much appreciation to the descendants of these two g-g-aunts of mine.

Bert Abernathy married Maggie Irene Huebsch in Collin County, Texas and had 5 children; Andrew Preston [my grandfather], Leona, Wesley, Jessie, and Eleane.

He died in San Antonio, Texas and his body was shipped by train to Collin County, Texas to be buried beside his wife Maggie. His son Wesley and his family drove from San Antonio to Anna to meet the train and was present for the graveside services. This information was given to me by Wesley but we have not been able to verify his plot and there is no headstone marking the grave. I have been able to obtain a Civilian Draft Registration Report and his Death Certificate.
