Not too long after moving into their new home,Irma and Angel got some unexpected but welcomed news. Irma was finally expecting a child. They were ecstatic, it’s what they both wanted, a child of their own! Joy and happiness ruled the household and both of their families.

Testing revealed she was to have a boy. His arrival would be October 18, 2004.

Diligently, they prepared like any parent would, childproofing the home and such. They picked the room closest to theirs and made it the nursery. They decided on a sports theme, just like his daddy, little Angel would be a soccer player.

Eight months later, Irma went for her routine check up; after all, she would be giving birth in a month or so. There were no indications that anything was awry. However, no one would have predicted the grief, pain and tears they were soon to experience.

On September 16, 2004 Irma was at her doctor’s office for her check up. Irma sensed something was wrong, the doctors frantic look told her something was terribly wrong. More tests, ultrasound and nothing. The doctor relayed the worst bit of news any expecting parent would ever hear. “I am sorry Irma, there’s no heart beat.” The pain is indescribeable.

Irma was induced on Friday, September 17, 2004 and gave birth (if you may) to a stillborn baby boy on September 18, 2004.

The day (baby shower) they were to be celebrating his arrival opening gifts and enjoying being in the spotlight, Irma and Angel instead were at the hospital, holding on to the tiny boy they expected with so much anticipation. They held on to him, cried, sang lullabys, and dressed him in his first and last baby outfit with broken hearts.

Angel Javier Ortiz went to heaven, where he now watches over his mommy and daddy, giving honor to his name, Angel.
