C. J. Lasher, 65, Eastburg, ex-crossing guard succumbs

EAST STROUDSBURG - Charles J. Lasher, 65, of 70 N. Green St., East Stroudsburg, died Saturday in the General Hospital of Monroe County. He was born in Henryville, a son of Mrs. Joseph Gilmore of East Stroudsburg and the late Seldon Lasher. He was retired from the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad after 46 years of service. He was a crossing watchman at Milford Crossing. He was a member of the Stroudsburg Methodist Church and the Stroudsburg Lodge of Eagles. He is survived, in addition to his mother, by his widow, Hattie E. Lasher, two sons, Preston G. and Charles, both of East Stroudsburg; two sisters, Mrs. Norman Vallerchamp of Stroudsburg, and Mrs. Russell Winters of Stroudsburg, and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Daniel G. Warner Funeral Home with the Rev. David G. High officiating. Burial will be in the Laurelwood Cemetery. Friends and relatives may pay their respects at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Tuesday.
