Peter was the son of Fred S. and Erma Bay Arent. He graduated from Lancaster High School in 1951, where heplayed football for the Golden Gales. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Alten's Macine Shop, later Westerman's until his retirement in 1995, after 45 years service. He and his wife Betty owned and operated Arent's Grocery on Cedar Hill Road for 29 years.
He was a member of United Machinist Union, U.C.T., a confirmed member of the First English Lutheran Church and attended Church of God. He contributed his time and talents to Habitat for Humanity and was a strong supporter of the Circle of Hope Cancer Support Group, being a cancer survivor himself.
He was married to Betty Reid and they had four children: Malcolm Keith, Michelle Lynn, Melody Lane and Melissa.
