CASON – Connie Wade "C.W." Waddle, 64, died on Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at the V.A. Hospital in Memphis. Born on Nov. 3, 1947, in Itawamba County, he was a son of the late William Jesse Waddle and Lela B. Gilliland Waddle.

He attended Fairview School. On May 23, 1980, he married Ann Ridings. For over 20 years, he owned and operated C.W. Waddle Logging Company. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam with the 6th Batallion, 3rd Infantry Division Charlie Company. He and Billy Carney, Larry Rodgers, Charles Sledge and Paul Meadlo all served together in Vietnam and remained lifelong friends, referring to themselves as a Band of Brothers. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, a former Sunday school teacher and Brotherhood Club cook. He was also a lifetime member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Tupelo branch. He was a devout husband, father and grandfather. He was often referred to as the best dad anyone could have. He enjoyed being with his family, fellow Vietnam veterans and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Waddle; daughters, Debbie Holland, Nettleton, Amanda Tucker (Luke), Becker; sons, Brad Waddle (Denise), Red Bay, Ala., Johnny Cox (Paula), Blue Springs; sister, Betty Hughes (Bobby), Tremont; brothers, Eudith Waddle (Etoye) and Milburn Waddle (Janice) of Ryans Well, Odell Waddle, Tommy Waddle (Patsy) of Golden, Billy Waddle (Delores), Smithville; grandchildren, Jamey Holland, John Gannon and Jackson Cox; sisters-in-law, Pearlie Waddle, Fulton, Wanda Christopher (Tommy), Plantersville; brother-in-law, Jackie Ridings (Nita), Nettleton; mother-in-law, Mary Ruth Ridings, Nettleton; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Willerean Waddle; brothers, Odie and Roy Dee Waddle; and sister-in-law, Olene Waddle.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Liberty Baptist Church with Bro. Tommy Whaley, Bro. Johnny Cox and Bro. Clinton Worthey officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Billy Carney, Larry Rodgers, Charles Sledge, Paul Meadlo, Ricky Burt, Murlis Underwood, Todd Hughes, Jackie Ridings, Jon Michael Bramlett and Nolan Hamilton. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Harlow, Bill Hester, George McBunch, the former crew of Waddle Logging, Al Brurgeois and friends of the V.A.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. He will lie in state at the church from 1:15 p.m. until service time on Sunday.

Memorials may be given to the Vietnam Veterans of America, P.O. Box 48, Tupelo, MS 38802.
