Judson was born to Ulysses G Clark and Alice Williams in Kansas. He grew up with his siblings, Frank L., Alta m., Glenn, Floyd, Raymond and Orval L. Clark. His sister Marvene was born June 27th 1918, after he died.

Judson was dating Thelma Violet Tiff, a junior in the Hadam High School. Jud attended the same church as the Ervin Tiff family. Sunday evenings were considered date night at the Ervin Tiff home and the parlor was opened to this use as the young couples played the piano and sang. He gave Thelma a small ruby engagement ring. She would be 18 in July and of age to get married.

One Sunday afternoon Judson was playing softball, he had a ruptured appendix and died. Thelma was to say later, "When Jud died I thought my world had ended."

The Tiff family sold their farm and moved to Wiggins, CO so when school was out Thelma moved also and went to summer school for a teaching certificate. Judson's uncle George W. Clark living in Yuma, CO. was on a school board and got her a teaching job there and introduced her to the Smiley family for a place to board, close to the school house.
